Monitoring Water Quality in Ballona Lagoon, Los Angeles, California: Nitrate Level Fluctuation in Low and High Tide Condition
نویسندگان
چکیده
The coastal wetland, Ballona Lagoon in Southern California has experienced degradation and size reduction due to urbanization. This study analyzes nitrate concentrations the lagoon identify contamination sources assess its impact. includes determining levels during high low tides wet dry seasons, establishing concentration gradients, examining relationship between salinity concentrations. were found be higher locations closer head of lagoon, particularly urbanized areas, suggesting land-based season’s tide (S2: 2.37 mg/l; S3: 3.85 S4: 3.91 mg/l). Findings highlight importance managing near urban areas. Monitoring over time are crucial for sustainability efforts. research emphasizes need long-term monitoring conservation strategies mitigate Lagoon.

Densities of Fecal Indicator Bacteria in Tidal Waters of the Ballona Wetlands, Los Angeles County, California
—Densities of fecal indicator bacteria (FIB) represented by total coliforms, E. coli and enterococci were measured within tidal channels of the Ballona Wetlands (Los Angeles County) to see if the wetlands act as a sink or source for these bacteria and to measure increases in FIB densities during wet weather. Samples were collected on 10 days over a 1-yr period beginning February 2003 at four si...

Our aim was to assess whether past discharges from a wastewater treatment plant increased metal pollutant loads in stream mobile species in a one-day baseline sampling study that included a coastal wetland. Mosquitofish (Gambusia affinis) of two sizes, black bullhead (Ameiurus melas), and crayfish (Pacifastacus leniusculus) were collected from Malibu Creek, and California killifish (Fundulus pa...
